Time zone and hours
Kasane runs on Central Africa Time (UTC+2), with no daylight saving. If we are out on safari, replies can take a day or two longer, which is usually a good sign.
Where we are
Kasane, and how to reach it
Kasane is the administrative centre of Chobe District, on the south bank of the Chobe River, with a little over 9,000 residents at the last census. It sits a few kilometres from the point where Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe meet.
That position is the reason safaris start here. Chobe National Park begins on the town's doorstep, the Zambezi is minutes away, and three international borders are close enough to make a four-country trip sensible rather than ambitious. It also means you can fly in, rather than spending the first two days of your holiday driving.
Kasane is where we meet you, at the airport or at your lodge, and where your safari begins and ends. Our own base is further out in Chobe District, which is where the office paperwork happens and, more to the point, where we live.

Hot and dry from May to October, with the rains and the green season running from November to March. Daytime temperatures usually sit between the low twenties and the mid thirties Celsius, which is the seventies to mid nineties Fahrenheit.

Arriving by air
Kasane Airport (BBK) is four kilometres south of town. Air Botswana flies in from Gaborone, Johannesburg, Maun, Cape Town, Windhoek and Mbombela, and Airlink also serves Johannesburg. Charter operators fly from here into the Delta camps.

Arriving by road or river
A tarred highway runs up from Francistown and Gaborone. Victoria Falls is 70 kilometres east. Kazungula, eight kilometres east of town, carries the bridge across to Zambia, and a passenger ferry crosses to Impalila Island in Namibia.

Weather and seasons
Hot and semi-arid, with the rains falling between November and March, which is what we call the green season. Kasane has recorded 41°C (106°F) at its hottest and 0.5°C (33°F) on a winter night, so pack a fleece for early game drives whatever the brochures say about Africa.
